Tragic End: Ex-LSU WR’s Suicide After Police Pursuit

Former LSU Tigers wide receiver Kyren Lacy has died at age 24 in a devastating incident involving a police pursuit in Houston that ended in an apparent suicide, authorities confirmed.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that Lacy crashed his vehicle during the chase late Saturday night and was found deceased at the scene from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The tragic event comes months after Lacy faced serious legal troubles stemming from a deadly December 2023 car crash in Louisiana that had severely damaged his NFL aspirations.

The Thibodaux native was awaiting trial on charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation after allegedly causing a collision that killed 78-year-old Herman Hall.

Lacy had been a standout player for LSU in the 2023 season, leading the team with 9 receiving touchdowns and ranking second with 58 catches for 866 yards. Despite declaring for the NFL Draft days after the fatal accident, his football future was in jeopardy due to the pending criminal case.

LSU Athletics released a heartfelt statement: “We are devastated by the loss of Kyren Lacy. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and everyone who knew him during this incredibly difficult time.”

The dual tragedies – first the fatal wreck that upended his life, then his shocking death – have left the sports world in mourning. Investigations into both incidents remain ongoing.
