Josie Totah (born J.J. Totah) is an American actress and writer who came out as a transgender woman in 2018. Born in Sacramento, California, she began acting as a child, appearing in Disney Channel’s “Jessie” before her breakout role in the NBC sitcom “Champions.”
After publicly transitioning, Totah became one of Hollywood’s most visible transgender actresses, starring as Lexi in the Peacock series “Saved by the Bell” reboot (2020-2021). She uses her platform to advocate for transgender rights while pursuing diverse acting roles that transcend her identity.
Totah attended the University of Southern California’s School of Dramatic Arts. She’s open about her transition journey but maintains boundaries around her personal relationships. In her free time, she writes screenplays and volunteers with LGBTQ+ youth organizations.
Now in her early 20s, Totah balances acting with writing projects, including developing her own TV series. She represents a new generation of performers reshaping Hollywood’s approach to gender diversity while establishing herself as more than just a “trans actress.”
